In “Kirke’s Quarters” at the newly opened Narnia House, we celebrate the Professor who went first into Narnia (he was The Magician’s Nephew), and whose home had a magical wardrobe that became famous ’round the world. 😉
When The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe begins, the Pevensie children are evacuated from London to Professor Kirke’s country estate during the air raids in WW2. He reminds them of the nonsense of empirical rationalism and secular cynicism and encourages them, when they’re with good reason, TO BELIEVE.
The Rose Reading Room (thanks Meredith Euliss Rose) on the other side of the wardrobe (donated by Janet McIndoe and re-crafted by Scott Van Eerden) has already become a kids’ favorite. It’s always stocked –of course– with tins of English Teas and Turkish Delight!
Kirke’s Quarters is where our collection of C.S. Lewis’s letters are kept, including four framed photocopies of our very favorites. The pipe collection in The Cedar Study (the aromatic wood was a gift from Columbia Forest Products) and the old map of Cambridge that is above the fireplace were favorites of the ol’ Professor.
Come visit! A link will be shared sometime soon.
P.S. We still need more full length fur coats for the wardrobe if any of you have one on moth balls somewhere…. ❤️🙏📚
