On episode 200 of History Channel’s #ForgedInFire this week our friend, Chris Moss (fellow churchman at Christ Covenant Church Greensboro, NC village blacksmith, and husband of Grace Goforth Moss) showed the world what it is to pursue excellence before God and man.
Chris won the prize for making this masterful sword (see photo) in response to a worldwide audience challenge! What a timeless craft, and what an honor to cheer on a gifted, good and humble man! To borrow from Longfellow’s classic poem, The Village Blacksmith:
Thanks, thanks to thee, my worthy friend,
For the lesson thou hast taught!
Thus at the flaming forge of life
Our fortunes must be wrought;
Thus on its sounding anvil shaped
Each burning deed and thought.
We’re hoping to open a Village Blacksmith Shoppe here at the Homestead in 2022 for Chris to teach people about smithing and the picture it is of gospel life:
each of us at God’s anvil.
So, if you know of any good equipment and accessories for a 19th century forge, please reach out to us at !
