We lost a treasured ewe lamb yesterday. I don’t know how, or why, but I found her lifeless in her favorite spot to lay every morn and eventide.

I know it’s not a Fb kind of thing to share. But sometimes things happen that leave a pit in your gut, and that’s life, too. Eddie was there with me when we found her. We consecrated her back to God, thanked Him for the joy of caring for such a beautiful and lovable creature, and prayed those hard but helpful ancient words:

“The Lord gives and the Lord takes away;
blessed be the name of the Lord.”

I built a hot fire in the big stone fire pit that we’ve used for years for bonfire merriment, and she was gone in minutes.

I felt like an Old Testament priest — but one who had failed in preserving a sheep without blemish, rather than one who had succeeded in making a good sacrifice to atone for people’s sins.

Farm life is spectacular.

But part of what makes it so is the fact that it’s spectacularly hard sometimes. We’re learning, continuing to learn things that only experience can teach. 🙏

Make sharing easy!
