We’re still in the afterglow of the first annual Daddy-Daughter Date Night here at the Homestead. It was a priceless celebration of the unique kind of Valentine love that exists between dads and daughters. Many have written about it. Some of it is funny. Garrison Keillor wrote:
The father of a daughter is nothing but a high-class hostage. A father turns a stony face to his sons, berates them, shakes his antlers, paws the ground, snorts, runs them off into the underbrush, but when his daughter puts her arm over his shoulder and says, ‘Daddy, I need to ask you something,’ he is a pat of butter in a hot frying pan.
We were ready for the Little Princesses. The Homestead was re-done a bit to offer a disco-style dance floor, activity tables, and a Dining Hall dressed up for some of the Kingdom’s very finest young ladies: each a Cinderella in their own right.
You could tell by the faces of the fathers that they were thinking to themselves:
I loved her first.
We’re hoping this becomes a new annual tradition. ❤️
